News - Newspapers, Newswires, News Sources: Bias in News Sources

Opinion in Periodicals

scalesBias, or opinion, exists in most periodicals.  Some authors and editors are blatantly biased for- or against- a particular topic.  Even scholarly publications show their professional association bias by accepting or not accepting articles for publication.  Whether bias is based in politics, economics, ethnicity or religious beliefs, it is the reader's responsibility to understand both sides of a debatable topic.  That means you have to read widely - from a larger-than-usual pool of resources. Don't shy away from opinion-based literature; just recognize it for what it is.

Finally, it's important to understand Who Owns the News Media!
