Citing Sources: Database Citation Tools

Use this guide as a resource when you cite sources.

Citing Articles from EBSCOhost Databases

EBSCOhost databases offer a "Cite" option when viewing full records, which is located in the "Tools" box on the right side of the database screen.

  • Click on the 'Cite' icon.
  • The citation opens in a new window in a variety of style formats (APA, MLA, etc).
  • Copy and paste the correct citation into your document.
    • TIP: Choose the "Email" icon to have the full-text article sent to you along with the citation!
  • Double-check citation for errors.

Examples of EBSCOhost databases:

  • Applied Science & Technology Abstract
  • CINAHL Complete
  • ERIC
  • Humanities Full Text
  • Social Sciences Full Text

Citing Articles from Gale Databases

Gale databases provide two sources of citation help:

  • For most items, look at the bottom of the record to find the "Source Citation" in MLA style.
  • Use the "Citation Tools" option on the right side of the database screen, which also offers APA formatting.
    • Click on the 'Citation Tools' icon.
    • Choose style format (MLA or APA).
    • Click on 'OK'.
    • Copy and paste the citation into your document.
      • TIP: Choose the "Email" icon to have the full-text article sent to you along with the citation!
    • Double-check citation for errors.

  • General OneFile
  • Health Reference Center Academic
  • Literature Resource Center



Citing Articles from ProQuest Databases

Proquest databases offer a "Cite" option in the toolbar at the top of the page when viewing the full-text of a record (there is also a similar "Cite" option at the bottom of the record in the Indexing Details).

  • Clicking on the 'Cite' icon creates a properly formatted citation in a new window.
  • Copy and paste the citation to your document.
    • TIP: Choose the "Email" icon to have the full-text article sent to you along with the citation!
  • Double-check citation for errors.
